Cookbook review: Milk Bar Life

Milk Bar Life is one of the oddest cookbooks I’ve come across in a while.  There is quite an assortment of recipes.  I was expecting it to be mostly desserts because of the reference to the Milk Bar in its name, and while it did contain dessert recipes, it also contained weeknight meal-type recipes, snacks, appetizers, etc. – everything from chocolate chip cookies to kimchi quesadillas.

I couldn’t help being disappointed in this book.  It was mostly a junk food cookbook … and several of the recipes are things that you really don’t need recipes for.  Seven layer salad, for example, is basically seven layer dip, but with lettuce.  Kimchi quesadillas are quesadillas with kimchi added.  Tang toast is toast with Tang powder sprinkled on it, which sounds disgusting to me because I find Tang to be disgusting.  This might be a good cookbook for younger people (maybe college-aged).

This cookbook is a curiosity … pick it up at the bookstore, flip through it, but I couldn’t recommend purchasing it.  It will most likely gather dust on the shelves.
